MEET THE DIRECTOR: COMMUNITY RECREATION

LYLIAN MELENDEZ 

I have been the Director of UCP’s Community Recreation program since 1987. We have gone through some changes over the last 20 years, but one thing has remained constant. UCP’s Recreation program serves the needs of many people living with disabilities in the Delaware Valley. I believe people need to be active and social in order to enjoy a happy and healthy life. That is what this program aims to do. I have a Bachelor of Science degree in Therapeutic Recreation from Temple University. I am also a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) by the National Council of Therapeutic Recreation Certification. I decided very early in my education what I wanted to do with my life, and that remains unchanged. I am proud of our program, which gives individuals the opportunity to make choices about participating in the activities they enjoy.
