It was a great day of basketball for a GREAT cause when the area's best high school seniors hit the court for two "city vs. suburbs" basketball games at the 24th annual All Star Labor Classic. The event, sponsored by Philadelphia's Organized Labor, raised $100,000, which will help make a difference in the lives of children and adults with disabilities living in the Delaware Valley.
The first game was the traditional grudge match pitting members of Philadelphia's Organized Labor against a team of media all stars. It was a close game until the Labor team made a last-minute substitution, calling on 7-year-old Dominic Dolan. Dominic came on the court and, with assistance from a few Labor teammates, was lifted up to score the winning basket in the final seconds of the game.
The All Stars represented public, private and parochial schools in Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, and Philadelphia counties. They brought an incredibly high level of basketball to the court and gave the crowd two very exciting (and competitive) games to watch. The City Girls beat the Suburban Girls with a score of 84-82, and the Suburban Boys outscored the City Boys 114-111.
